Tangerine Dream
Tournado
I didn't go to the Shepherds Bush concert. It was no surprise at all that the reports of the event were mostly glowing. I'm sure had I gone I'd have enjoyed it - I've never been to a TD concert which I haven't enjoyed. Most people who've commented have said that the first half of the concert was by far the best, containing many reworkings of older material. This live recording was made in Poland on April 23rd and unfortunately, as the sleevenotes clearly state, only the second set of the concert is featured. But perhaps all is not lost. I have been comparatively impressed by TD's more recent releases, and hopes were high that the live arena would transcend them even more. Sadly with 'Tournado' this does not seem to be the case. It's all performed immaculately and sounds open, powerful and clean. But really, how many times more are they going to serve up, for example, 'Little Blond in the Park of Attractions' and 'Touchwood'? Both decent tracks for sure (and here the sequencing on 'Touchwood' is great), but between them they were featured 5 times on 'The Dream Mixes' alone. There must come a point when even the Froese Firm get sick and tired of serving up the same old beats and riffs. You'll buy it, you'll listen to it, you'll probably enjoy it, you'll go to the concert, you'll enjoy it, I will too, we'll go to the pub, and you know what we'll talk about? Whether TD will ever release the mountain of live material they have in their archives. Enough said? (GG)
