Mike Pinder
The Promise
|
After setting the Mike Pinder question a few issues ago I was delighted that smd managed get hold of this, Mike's first solo outing after his departure from the Moody Blues. The album was first released in 1976 but this is a 1996 re-release and sounds wonderfully clean thanks to the usual digital remastering wizardry. The packaging consists of a superb fold-out sleeve containing full lyrics, and an outer cardboard sleeve - its refreshing to see such detail devoted to these re-releases. All too often they are thrown together with little reference to the original. More good news is that there are two bonus tracks, one being a different version of 'One Step Into The Light' from the Moodies 'Octave' album. 'The Promise' has Mike's distinctive vocals on all tracks, and his trademark laid back style enriches each piece. The mellotron takes a relatively back seat, but the album has twinges of nostalgia around ever corner and fans of the Moody Blues, and Mike Pinder in particular, should check this out. (GG)
