Since hearing Patrick O'Hearn's superb album 'Indigo' I have been an admirer of his music. One of his great strengths is the ability to craft powerful, memorable and above all infectious themes - but without ramming them down your throat. I approached this album hoping for more of the same, and I wasn't disappointed. The opener 'Liberty' sets the pace and style. This is quality EM of a subliminal nature. The pace is laid back, the melodics are a delight. Subtle rhythmic structures provide the backdrop for some wonderful themes - listen to 'Two Continents' for example. String synths weave a mesmeric trail through a carefully constructed soundscape. And track after track repeats this winning formula.
This music has the immediacy to please most on first listen, yet the depth to reward increasing familiarity. I certainly won't be letting this beautifully presented digipack out of my possession. (GG)
