On the opener 'Galaxies - Peace Meditation' some short introductory vocal samples float out of lovely deep reverberating cosmic pads. These pads become thicker and meaner almost growling from the speakers. A rather bleepy sequence can just be heard, the backing pads and effects now having something of a wordless vocal even Gregorian quality to them. An excellent rhythmic loop starts up which carries us forward but isn't too intrusive. We then get an exquisite uplifting laser sharp lead line over some spot on bass backing including a lovely deep brooding sequence. Near the end we return to the tranquility of space, solar winds breaking like waves on a shore and continuing right through into 'Asket's Dream'. An extremely delicate bell melody breaks through exuding calm and relaxation. Its a complete contrast to the previous number.

'Arp Dreams' returns to power synthesis starting with a rapid and exciting sequence. A bass beat gives extra energy as another high register lead line flashes over the top. Things then subside into ethereal pads. Other sequences and rhythms try to start up like stars being formed in some vast nebula. When they do burst into life we are back to a blistering pace. Lovely thick chunky analogue sounds contrast with an almost shrill lead line which then gives way to euphoric melodic pads, the sequence not letting up until we are less than a couple of minutes from the end when we return to the peacefulness of the cosmos.

'Space Drift' wasn't at all what I expected given the title. We are straight into a thick squelchy sequence. There is a short vocal sample which is whispered again from time to time. A gentle slow rhythm starts up and little echoing notes which were always there providing touches of detail become more prominent as does the rhythm. There are slight touches of Jarre and he is mentioned in the credits so maybe there is an influence. 'Origin of Mankind' begins with windy whistling pads out of which strikes a tabla type rhythm. A melodic sequence joins it as does an infectious beat and an excellent bass line All the many sounds and pulsations combine perfectly. Another catchy melody enters which really puts the icing on the cake. Its another stunning track. The 'single' from the album if you like. Now 'Astral Trip' is more what I expected given the title. Tinkling little waterfalls of notes add some brightness to stellar pads. We remain in this extremely tranquil state of drift throughout the sixteen minute track. Its a wonderful piece of space music but by the end I was so relaxed I just had to return to 'Origin of Mankind' to wake me up again. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

"Galaxies – Peace Meditation" begint met korte stemsamples die opduiken uit mooie diepe kosmische tapijten. Deze worden dikker en voller en drukken zich als het ware uit de luidsprekers. Een vrij prettige sequence wordt net gehoord, de achtergrondklanken hebben nu iets vocaals, bijna Gregoriaans over zich. Een indrukwekkende ritmische loop komt erbij maar is niet te overheersend. Dan krijgen we een uitgelezen laserscherpe solo tezamen met een bas en een diepe broeierige sequence. Tegen het einde keren we terug naar de rust van de ruimte, zonnewinden spoelen aan als golven en zetten dit voort tot in " Ashet's Dream". Een heel delicate belletjes melodie breekt door de kalmte en relaxatie. Een totaal contrast met het vorige nummer. "Arp Dreams" komt terug met een snelle en opwindende sequence.

De bas beat geeft extra energie terwijl en hoge solo erover suist. Dan wordt alles opzij gezet voor etherische tapijtjes. Andere sequences en ritmes proberen te starten alsof sterren gevormd worden in de Nebula. Als ze éénmaal ontstaan zijn komen we terug op normale snelheid. Heerlijk dikke analoge klanken contrasteren met een bijna schelle solo, dit geeft een lekker euforisch gevoel en dit houdt aan tot bijna op het einde, dan vallen we terug op de rust van de kosmos. "Space Drift" was helemaal niet wat ik veronderstelde met zo'n titel. We beginnen direct met een dikke verpletterende sequence. Af en toe fluistert er een stemsample. Een traag zacht ritme start en fijn echoënde noten, die daarvoor ook al wat detail brachten, worden nu prominenter. Ook het ritme komt nu meer op de voorgrond. Er is een klein beetje een Jarre gevoel en hij wordt ook vermeld in het boekje, dus misschien is er wel degelijk een invloed.
