Tangerine Dream Valentine Wheels |
The first half however was very much a different matter. Harking back to the championship years of the 70's and 80's, 'Valentine Wheels' recalls a classic end-to-end tussle which took place on November 6th 1997.
When you look at the team sheet it comes as no surprise why there was such excitement - rock solid defenders such as 'Betrayal' and 'Poland, midfield mastery in the shape of 'Silver Scale', Warsaw in the Sun' and 'Stratosfear 95' and wearing the hallowed 8, 9 and 10 shirts we have 'Dolphin Dance', 'Le Parc' and 'Beach Theme'. With such a lineup just how could they lose?
On the day there were some truly star performances, with the blistering sequencer work of 'Silver Scale' running rings around a demorolised opposition. You can hear the crowd roar it's approval as soon as the likes of 'Warsaw in the Sun' gets the ball to deliver incisive melodics with unerring accuracy. The newly capped' Stratosfear 95' registered a lively performance however some may feel he lacks the purity of his illustrious father's game.
And as soon as the ball arrived in the danger area the likes of 'Dolphin Dance' and 'Le Parc' (nicknamed 'Streethawk' by his team mates) pounced with predatory instincts, enhancing their reputations of melodic and sequential perfection with stunning goals. It was a team performance, and though 'Beach Theme' may have lost a yard or two in pace, the majestic flowing movement is still all there.
If this all sounds like a load of balls, nothing could be further from the truth. 'Valentine Wheels' is a classic momento of the live encounter. Cherish, and replay to your grand children in years to come to ensure they know how "the beautiful game" got its name. (GG)
