Of all the Ron Berry CDs this one is probably my favourite. It is certainly well up there with the likes of 'Osiris' and 'Wastelands'. 'Part 1' is initially rather tranquil but in a very brooding, ominous sort of way. Deep reverberating pads gradually grow in prominence punctuated by solar flair type effects. The whole thing then lightens slightly as the music develops a sort of shimmering quality. I am reminded of some early Neuronium. ('Digital Dream' especially but also a little 'Chromium Echoes'). It certainly has a feel of that early eighties period (can you believe this is almost 25 years old!). A slow sequence starts up then another comes to join it, all accompanied by a truly beautiful lead line. It's so gorgeous and lush. Maybe there is even a hint of John Dyson in 'Evolutions' or 'Aquarelle' mode. I wish this particular passage could have gone on for even longer but Ron has so much to 'say' that he now moves on to a rather delicate section with just the right touch here, effect there. It as if sunlight is slowly starting to pierce a Spring mist. Another very slow sequence gently drips, like occasional water droplets falling from trees high above. We return to action as a more strident sequence returns accompanied by a rhythm line (sounding very of the period). The lead line also breaks loose once again, being just as effective as before.

It's all change for the first half of 'Part 2' which juxtapositions deep bass stabs with delicate bright sonic splashes to create quite an eerie section. All then descends to silence except for some strange hammering sounds and cosmic detail. Even more curious abrasive scraping effects might make you jump when you first hear them. This really is the most curious collage indeed, which builds quite a head of steam before slowly subsiding to windy sounds. It was all far ahead of its time actually- much more like something from a modern day FAX label offering. We then go from one radical section of highly descriptive 'picture music' to another. Quite amazing stuff. By the time we enter the second half of the track normality has returned with more conventional melodic sequence and melody combinations; fairly similar to 'Part 1'. All very easy to get on with and unlike the first half of the track very much of its time. (DL)
