Andy Pickford
Works Volume 1 (EMMA '94 Live)
|
This limited edition live CD (500 copies) is a recording of Andy's 1994 EMMA#1 concert, and comes without a cover but supplied with a PVC wallet with Andy's autograph on the CD itself.
The material is mainly taken from 'Terraformer', with one track from 'Replicant' and an additional bonus studio track. The title track opens with deep pounding effects before some great driving synth work gives the listener the feeling of travelling over an expansive city scape at night. 'Mesmereyes' is a superb melodic piece with synth drums overlaid with keyboard work. Andy's vocals add immensely to the overall atmosphere of the track. 'Summers Past' continues with acoustic guitar sounding synth melodies combined with flutey motifs. It adds up to what must be one of the most beautiful pieces of synth music ever written, full of texture and emotion. The spaghetti western influenced 'Adios Amigo' is a great blend of melodic and driving synth work, with some extremely clever samples thrown in - especially the magnum ending to the piece.
Audience applause heralds the second section of the concert which kicks off with 'Get Dyson'. The mysteron vocals which start are both amusing and inventive and sets the scene superbly for the melodic driving synth work which follows. 'Darklands' brings to mind Vangelis with the driving keyboards combining with eastern-feel motifs and high energy sequences. 'Still Waters' is an incredibly beautiful piece which again features vocals overlaid on stunning symphonic melodics. Deserved applause introduces the final live track, 'The Furnace'. Opening with references to 'Blonde in a Suitcase' it then explodes into a complex arrangement of sequences and melodics. The bonus 'Arc of Infinity', exclusive to this album, is another great mixture of light and dark sequences and spacey themes.
Overall this is a must for all serious EM fans. (Andrew Garner)
